| Arne
Jacobsen first trained as a mason and then an architect
in Copenhagen. The Dane's early work was greatly influenced
by early modernists Le Corbusier and Mies Van Der Rohe and
he was the first person to introduce Modernism to Denmark.
Jacobsen's success comes from an organic sculptural simplicity
that makes his work look effortless and gives his pieces their
timeless appeal. His Egg, Swan, Ant and Series 7 have never
lost their popularity. We also love the stainless steel range
he designed for Stelton in 1967, the lighting he conceived
for Louis Poulson between 1955 and 1960 and his bathroom fittings
for IP Lunds. Jacobsen's most important architectural scheme
of the 1960s, St Catherine's College, has even inspired the
deep sagey-green sink backdrop in the Showhome kitchen. Email
