Showhome opened the door in June 2003 offering everything
on the ground floor for sale for one day only. You could
buy mid-century Scandinavian teak, cherry, beech and
rosewood furniture from the likes of Arne Jacobsen,
Bruno Mathsson, Hans Wegner. Showhome sold mid-century
glass from Nanny Still for Riihimaki and Per Lutken
and Otto Brauer for Holmegaard. Signed ceramics from
Finnish designer Tapio Wirkkala sat next to modern pieces
from ceramicists Scabetti, Joanne Windaus and Phorm.
You could order the Michael Young lights hanging in
the hallway, take home the cushions in bold 60s fabrics
piled up next to the sofa, even walk off with the vintage
Ercol children's chairs sitting outside the downstairs
loo. Showhome had prints from artists Sharon Elphick
and Kavel and tea sets, bags, trainers and wallpaper
from Eley Kishimoto. Showhome has since gone on to curate
Midcentury.Modern twice a year, an event where top British
mid-century dealers and British contemporaries get together
to sell to the public. |
